Dean “Deano” Viana – Real-Life Hero!
15 years ago, MysticArt’s President/CEO Katy Wallin first met Dean Viana when she created a show following the firefighters from the Beverly Hills Fire Department!
From being a Top 4 on Wipeout to saving people’s lives, Deano, a retired fire chief, was the perfect real-life hero to be on Beast Games Season 1!
We got a chance to catch up with him about what his Beast Games experience was like:
- What was it like working with Mystic?
“I was honored that you guys saw the real me. You held onto my number for 15 years. That’s love. You gave me the chance to show my true colors. I’ll rep you and love you guys always.”
- What was going through your head during the ‘million-dollar’ challenge?
“When the bribe came up, I thought about my grandkids. My wife told me, ‘Don’t sell your integrity.’ So I didn’t. I’m not rich, but I’m trusted—and that’s worth more…I don’t regret not taking the million dollars, because it’s come back 10-fold.”
- How has the show impacted you?
“I’m not a big Instagram guy, but after Beast Games, I received messages and friend requests from around the world, from Croatia to Peru- these kind, loving messages. While I was on a plane, some guy asked me if he could take a picture with me, saying ‘my son won’t believe I’m on the plane with Deano’. It’s been a blessing!”
- What’s your advice for future contestants?
“I know you hear it a lot, but just be yourself, love who you are, don’t change anything, and don’t try to be somebody you’re not.”
From riding fire trucks in Beverly Hills to getting chants of “DEANO! DEANO!”—this isn’t just a story about reality TV.
